What is CNC Turning?

CNC Turning is a manufacturing process. Metal bars are held and rotated while a tool removes material to create a shape. It is the opposite of drilling, where the tool rotates and the material remains stationary.

A center with both turning and milling capabilities can stop rotation to allow for milling out of other shapes. Turning parts on CNC turning centers allows for a wide range of complexities, sizes and material types.

  • The starting material can be round, square or hexagonal-shaped.

  • Bar length is based on the feeder.

  • The tools in CNC lathes or turning centers are digitally controlled

  • CNCs with live tooling, such as those at Automated Production, Inc., can stop rotation to add additional features like drilled holes, slots and milled surfaces.

  • Some CNC turning centers allow work to be completed on both sides by employing an additional spindle.

  • CNC turning centers vary in tooling and spindle options, as well as outer diameter (OD) limitations.

CNC Milling

CNC Milling Machine

We are an ISO 9001:2008 compliant CNC machining shop focused on providing quality prototype through production quantities.  With our CNC vertical mills and machining centers, we make complex machined parts quickly and competitively for a wide range of applications in metal or plastic. Ask us to quote quality CNC milled parts for your needs.

Automated Production, Inc. offers CNC milling for machined parts with tolerances down to +/- .0005” or better.

Milled Parts up to 43″ x 31″ x 37″ with a maximum weight of 3500 lbs.

What is CNC Milling?

CNC Milling is a manufacturing process. It performs many of the operations of both drilling and cutting.

A CNC mill drills and turns a piece of metal stock along an axes to cut and shape the stock to meet the pre-programmed requirements. Where a lathe turns a piece of stock to create the necessary part, a mill cuts a shape out by removing excess material.

  • A variety of types of CNC mills exist

  • APM has 2 CNC Vertical Mills, 3 CNC Horizontal Machining Centers and 5 CNC Vertical Machining Centers

  • Some milling features are included on CNC lathes with live tooling, dramatically reducing production time

Custom Manufacturing

box of small copper machined parts

From robots to airplanes, equipment requires custom metal or plastic parts to meet the precise specifications required for them to operate efficiently.

Automated Production Machining, Inc. does not offer off-the-shelf parts. Each product is produced according to your exact specifications, in the quantity required.

Custom Manufacturing Processes

Injection-molding, casting and additive manufacturing are just a few examples of custom manufacturing. Since so many types exist, it is important to choose what works for your product.

At Automated Production Machining, Inc. we specialize in machining:

Unlike other types of manufacturing, machining allows us to create strong and durable parts that withstand intense pressure. CNC machining starts with a solid block of material and removes what is not needed. Because the raw material is strong to begin with, the end result remains strong.

Advantages of Custom Manufacturing

  • Less waste, order only what you need
  • Orders are easily replicated for future needs
  • No more overcrowded warehouses full of obsolete parts
  • Easier to implement design changes once products are tested
  • Variety of delivery options

Our Commitment to Quality

You need to know that your supplier is doing everything they can to create a quality product.

In order to show this commitment, Automated Production Machining, Inc. is an ISO 9001:2008 compliant shop.

This means that we participate in practices set forth by the International Standards Organization. These standards address multiple areas including:

  • Quality Manual to document processes and procedures
  • Quality Management System
  • Records control
  • Management responsibility
  • Commitment to customer satisfaction
  • Product planning
  • Employee and personnel training
  • Continual improvement plans

We Support Lean Manufacturing

Most companies rely on lean manufacturing techniques. These techniques help organizations waste less and earn more.

Automated Production Machining, Inc. supports these efforts by utilizing advanced manufacturing software. This software allows you to take advantage of lean manufacturing processes like:

  • Just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing
  • Kanban
  • Blanket orders
  • Materials Requirement Planning (MRP)
